Connection 200 Colleges to the Education Grid
The
vision is to provide connectivity to all colleges, that is, net
working of the LANs to be set up in each of the colleges campuses
over which e-learning resources available from Internet, INFLIBNET
EDUSAT and such other agencies can be delivered to students., researchers,
and teaching faculty. it is, in fact, a knowledge delivery system
in itself that can supplement the present day instructional strategies
like the conventional class room lecturers,. Seminars etc. e-governance
of the Directorate is another objective.
2.
Employability enhancement Programme
As
per this office proceedings No. P1`-11626b05Coll.Edn. dated 13-6-05
a State Level Committee and College level Committees were formed
to facilitate regular interaction between the college and the employers
resulting in better employment information and placement of candidates.
These committees intend to hold short-term courses with PTA Aid
or on self-financing basis or under Continuing Education System.

Launching activities for facilitating development of soft skills
in graduates
Directorate
of Collegiate Education is in the process of imparting a positive
change in the educational system by enhancing the existing facilities
and also by exploring new areas of development for students community.
Also, to impact the competitiveness of the state’s educated manpower,
we need to impart certain essential life skills to graduating students.
It has been planned to train ht trainers first so that they will
be able to reach out to the students in order to better equip them
for a successful career. The desired outcomes of the course are
to increase the employability of the graduating students to about
20-30% and to make them better prepared to handle corporate life
in India and abroad
In
View of the above the Department of Collegiate Education has formulated
Soft Skills Training Programme in the State. As A first phase two
training programmes were4 conducted in the State to bring in awareness
to the teachers. It is called training to the trainers ie, teachers.
Fr this purpose one or two teachers was/were selected from each
college who are either in charges of Employment Guidance and Placement
Cell or teachers having initiative in quality improvement programme.
Keltron
is the agency for implementation of this programme. One training
programme for 19 colleges was conducted at Thiruvananthapuram from
19-12-05 to 23-12-05 and second programme was conducted at Kozhikode
for 20 Colleges situated in the northern districts.
4.
EDUSAT
This
provides a unique delivery system capable of establishing connectivity
among urban educational instructions with adequate infrastructure
imparting quality education, Scientific and technological Institutions
engaged to front line research and the large number of rural and
semi urban education institutions which lack necessary infrastructure.
The objective of setting up virtual class rooms in colleges is as
follows.
1. Enhancement of quality education
2. Employment of the teaching facility
by exposing them to Academic expertise and knowledge in their respective
disciplines
- Enriching
the regular courses by providing Employability Enhancement
Programmes, ie, Soft Skill Development, Career Guidance, etc
